What is Therapy and How does it Work?

You might be wondering how therapy even works, how you turn up and "do it"?

It might seem daunting, which it can be for many people, this is normal!

You're talking to someone completely new, and trusting this person with what you say. You're making yourself vulnerable. You might have some expectations on how it might go.

This is all part of the counselling process, and it's all natural to have going through your mind if you're not done this before (and also if you have).

To explain in the shortest way, therapy is about talking through all of that, and whatever you feel you want and need to. I'm someone who has completed training on how best to listen and be with you in all of those moments. To be by your side, picking up on things you might not have noticed, and checking this out with you in a gentle way.

We all have blind spots, myself included! That's why sometimes we might need another perspective, asking you if you've thought about that situation in another way. There is no expectation for you to go there, a therapy session is an open space to talk, but only if you feel ready to. I'm not here to force you to open up if you don't want to, and there is no judgement if you do or don't.

Sometimes, you might feel like you need the right words, or can't find them. This can happen for many people, especially when talking about emotions. I've explored emotions with individuals through the use of metaphors as well as bodily sensations when words aren't enough.
