Shelter - Do you feel protected?

When the word "Shelter" comes to mind, what do you think of?

Maybe something like a bus shelter, tent, a house. All of these are to some extent, enclosed spaces. Places that you may feel safe in?

When I had a look at synonyms for Shelter, it came up with some interesting words. Cover. Dwelling. Haven. Home.

Shelter is about where we are accommodated, where we stay in the day time, to eat, sleep and just generally be. It protects us from the outside world, it keeps us from harm and helps avoid any danger.

But if there are issues with the shelter you're in, this can impact your mental and physical health.

Maybe you're someone who rents a home, or has bought your own, both come with challenges. Trying to make the place you live in comfortable and habitable for you. If you can't make changes to help with this, you might not feel okay. You might not feel safe and protected.

Ultimately, like many things, one of the best things we can do is focus on the things we can change and control. And prioritising yourself is key to looking after your own mental and physical wellbeing.
