Sleep… We all need sleep…..

I did a small Facebook post on this back near the end of July, but I wanted to touch on this a bit more here.

For my other job, I have to get up early (my version of early), so this can feel disorientating, uncomfortable and make me, rather grumpy!

Some of us prefer to sleep longer, and may need those extra hours to feel more functional for a long day ahead. For others, a minimal few hours is plenty. How do we know what's best? There's always plenty of websites/sources telling you what the "recommended amount of sleep" is. Maybe it's between 7 and 8 hours, maybe it's 9, it always changes.

But what about for you personally? Is 7 hours really enough time? Or do you find you need more sleep to get yourself up and at 'em?

I think our quality of sleep really matters as well. And our feelings around sleep. Do you avoid going to bed? Do you jump in early and use your bed for other things like watching tv or even working? Or do you sleep for longer than your body might need?

Have a think, do you feel like you sleep enough for you? Do you constantly feel tired all the time? Do you sleep so long you actually feel more tired? Maybe something needs to change?

It's okay to want more time in bed, many of us do! But if it's all the time, does it affect the rest of your life? Maybe it's time to change that habit?

On the flip side, what about those of you who avoid sleep? Do you not feel like it nourishes you like it should? Can you rest at that time or is there something and/or someone stopping you?

It's okay to feel like something is off, sometimes we don't recognise what it is, but we know something needs to change. Have a chat to someone if you need to, give yourself time, space and care. And there's always the option to explore sleep and other topics in therapy too - see the rest of my website for more.
